Ubiquity Software’s SIP Application Server Completes Interoperability Testing with the Motorola IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS)

February 14 2005
3GSM Congress, Cannes, France – February 14th, 2005 –
Motorola Inc.’s (NYSE:MOT) Networks and Ubiquity Software today
announced the successful completion of interoperability testing of the
Ubiquity SIP Application Server with the Motorola IP Multimedia
Subsystem (IMS). The Motorola IMS provides wireless operators with the
ability to migrate to fully converged core networks that will enable
synchronized voice, data, and multimedia applications.
“Motorola’s IMS platform is a central part of our standards-based
approach to core network evolution,” said Michael Krutz, vice president
of the Core Networks Division of Motorola Networks. “Ubiquity has
joined Motorola’s IMS Interoperability Program and initial
interoperability testing of the Motorola IMS platform with Ubiquity’s
SIP application server has been completed.”
IMS applications will include converged voice services across
wireless, enterprise and WiFi networks, as well as value added services
such as Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC), multimedia messaging, instant
messaging and chat, video conferencing and multimedia group calling.
While some multimedia applications are available in one form or another
today, the IMS architecture allows a single application to work across
all IP enabled wireless access networks, instead of each one having to
be customized to the underlying radio access technology and thereby
limiting applicability. Multimedia applications built on the IMS
architecture are portable, traveling with enabled devices as
subscribers roam across country or around the world.
“Our SIP Application Server works with the IMS to enable operators
to seamlessly develop and deploy new value-added services,” said Ian
McLaren, president and CEO of Ubiquity. “Motorola is following the IMS
standard, and has leveraged the inherent potential for innovation in
the application layer with Ubiquity.”
The two companies are demonstrating joint SIP-based applications at
3GSM World Congress this week in Cannes, France, including conferencing
and ringback tones. To view these applications visit Motorola’s Booth #
A21 in Hall 1.
